Former road still clearly visible despite the vegetation.
Smooth and steady rise.
The Tahaa crossing trail is a former road that connects the village of Haamene, in the Haamene bay,
to Patio which is the main village of Tahaa, located on the other side of the island.
The track is still clearly visible, but canbe sometimes obstructed by vegetation.
It's up to you to decide whether you want to start this hike from Haamene or Patio. If you start from Haamene Bay, the trail starts at the bottom of the bay, in Haamene village, with a concrete path which climbs for a few meters. Open the barrier and follow the track. Watch out for the few cows that are around.
After about 500m, you come to a fork. Let the track going up on the left and continue on the shaded track. Go through a new barrier before a small concrete bridge.
Follow the track that can be sometimes obstructed by trees or vegetation. After 2km, you come to a hairpin bend on the right. Continue for about 1km to reach the viewpoint, which offers a nice panorama on Haamene bay. The place is well maintained and there is even a bench ... great place for lunch!
Continue on the track, then switch to the other side of the island, still inside fairly dense vegetation. After 2km, you cross a river and find a well-maintained track and some houses. Follow the road to finally join the coastal road near Patio.
