Hike description
Mount Manureva (385m) is the highest point of the island of Rurutu.
Access is possible from the crossing road between Moerai and Avera.
The hike begins on a wide vehicle track shaded in the pines.
After about 1.8km, you come out of the forest and get to a slightly steeper section
with steps and a rope ramp.
You reach the top of Mount Manureva, where there is a roofed picnic table,
which offers a good opportunity to lunch while enjoying the lovely view over the bay of Avera.
Behind the picnic table, the trail continues on the ridge towards a small hut.
After a descent then a quite steep climb, you reach at a magnificent point of view.
You can then continue to a third point of view, a little further.
Return on your steps to go back to Mount Manureva and go back down.
Note that a path continues at the end of the ridge, and allows you to go down through the forest in the north of the island.
This path is poorly marked and poorly maintained, so it is not recommended to take it.
