Hike description
There are many waterfalls in Afareaitu, including the Putoa waterfalls (also known as the Atiraa waterfalls) and the Vaioro waterfall.
The starting point for the Putoa waterfalls is at the end of the track after passing in front of the Afareaitu college.
You can park at the bifurcation, or at the gymnasium in front of the college if you do not want to go on the track with you car.
Note that start of the hike is 1.3km after the gymnasium.
The two waterfalls accessible here are upstream of the Putoa River.
First waterfall:
To get to the first waterfall, take the right track from the starting fork.
Continue on the trail, pass under arches of trees and cross a small stream.
You then quickly get to the lovely waterfall, which is very suitable for a bath.
Second waterfall:
From the starting fork, take the left track. Continue on the trail, and cross a stream. Do not miss the path which goes to your right a few meters further. The waterfall is a little further down the trail.
